In April 1946, soon after the elections, Jinnah called at Delhi a convention of all those persons who had been elected members of provincial and central legislatures on Muslim League ticket. In his inaugural speech the Quaid_e_Azam said:

“They may check us. They may obstruct us, but no body can prevent us from reaching our goal. They can delay us for a little time. With hope, courage and faith we shall win”.

During the session Mr.Hissain Shahid Shorwardhi of Bengal moved a resolution, which said:

“The zones comprising Bengal and Assam in the North-East and Punjab, NWFP, Sind and Baluchistan in the North-West of India, namely Pakistan zones, where the Muslim are in a dominant majority, be constituted into a sovereign independent state, and that an unequivocal undertaking be given to implement the establishment of Pakistan without delay…”

The legislators signed pledges solemnly declaring their firm conviction that the safety, salvation and destiny of the Muslims lay only in the achievement of Pakistan.
