In laboratories HCL (hydrochloric acid) is prepared by the reaction of sodium chloride (NACL) and conc.sulphuric acid (H2SO4).The process involved in the preparation of the (HCL) is as under.
Equipments:
Round bottom flask, Bendable tubes, Gas jar, Bunsen burner, Stand, Thistle funnel, cork.
Procedure:
first set the all equipment in the order now add some sodium chloride or normal salt in the round bottom flask fit a cork having two holes into the mouth of the flask pass the thistle funnel trough one hole of the cork and pass one end the tube through the hole of the cork and the other end into the gas jar make it air tight now add conc.sulphuric acid into the flask through thistle funnel. Immediately hydrochloric acid will be produced.
To check weather the hydro chloride or (HCL) is acidic take blue litmus paper near the jar if it turns red it is acidic other wise it is not.
Reaction equation:
2NACL + H2SO4 = Na2SO4 + 2HCL
Sodium Sulphuric Sodium Hydrochloric
Chloride acid sulphate acid
